Even though the word „school“ may sound intimidating during the summer holidays, as the saying goes, „He that fears every bush, must never go to a-birding“. And it will be the Industry Programme that will smooth you the way through the bushes of this year’s programme sections. Experts and filmmakers will hold special lectures, discussions and masterclasses in order to present the oddities, and even the traps of film craft and its history. Where else would you meet double Oscar nominee Jan Troell for a chat about his lifelong career than in the park behind the Hvězda cinema? His masterclass will take place in Respekt Tent on Tuesday, August 1 from 1.30 pm. Summer Film School will offer eleven masterclasses this year. They will be delivered by the Czech and Slovak personalities (Magda Vášáryová, Jan Hřebejk or Jan Svěrák) as well as by the international guests (Daniel Bergman, Angela Schanelec, Tarik Saleh, Philippe Grandrieux and others). A chain of lectures and discussions will talk through the phenomenon of computer games, film tricks, rising quality of TV production or a fascinating world of You Tube stars. Robert Byrne, the president of San Francisco Silent Film Festival, will introduce the difficulties of silent film restoration and preserving films on film strips while the representatives of the National Film Archive will reveal everything about the zero-one storage of all audio-visual data that is produced by the mankind. Swedish film expert Jan Holmberg will bring an exclusive series of four lectures on complete history of Swedish film. And those who never heard of José Luis Guerín should not miss out the programme of this year’s CinEd!
